A surge in cold weather accompanied by dense fog has enveloped various districts of Bengal, including metropolitan Kolkata, prompting concerns among residents. The Meteorological Department's Thursday statement highlights the prevailing minimum temperature in Kolkata at 15.3 degrees Celsius, one degree higher than the seasonal average.
The impact is widespread, with dense fog observed in regions such as Howrah, Hooghly, North and South 24 Parganas, East and West Medinipur, Purulia, Bankura, Jhargram, Murshidabad, and Malda.
Meteorological Department forecasts a continued drop in temperature until the weekend, exacerbating the prevailing cold wave. Looking ahead, the department anticipates a slight temperature increase starting next week, coinciding with Makar Sankranti on January 14, marking a potential end to the cold spell.
